A bi-partisan bill making its way through the Senate would, if enacted, make permanent current rules that forbid direct taxation on Internet services, removing the need to renew the policy every few years, according to the Wall Street Journal. Under the current regulations, if a product is not taxed offline, it cannot be taxed online; multiple states cannot tax the same online transaction; and states cannot create Internet-only taxes, according to the Journal.
