Senators Bob Corker (D-Conn.) and Chris Murphy (R-Tenn.) have put forth a plan that would raise the federal gasoline tax for the first time in two decades, according to the Associated Press. Specifically, the plan would raise the tax, currently 18.4 cents a gallon for regular gas and 24.4 cents a gallon for diesel, by 12 cents over the next two years, and then index both taxes to the rate of inflation, said the AP.
